~Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you’ll find one at the end of your arm … As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others. Audrey Hepburn ~
So often we look to other people to bail us out of our misery, sometimes help is needed, but sometimes it is the hardest lesson for ourselves and others that we do not help them and they have to help themselves. This is extremely painful for people who are sensitive to others needs and are very giving. The key here is to ask God to show you what to do in this situation and then really try to listen. It may be a lesson God has for them and every time you interfere, the person has to go back to square one. Whenever we are breaking a pattern of helplessness it is not comfortable, we don’t think we can do it on our own and it is a very scary place, but the challenge here is to trust in God to help you, not in others or how are you ever going to have a relationship with God if you don’t trust that God will be there to support you in your hour of need? If you don’t trust yourself, you cannot trust God. Pray for wisdom in these situations, pray for whatever God wants for that person in this situation, pray that you will be a helper and not a stumbling block and pray for the wisdom to know the difference between the two.
